I hope you enjoy reading it and feel free to comment.

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I haven't seen it and I don't intend to. Many years ago Hollywood made a film with Vanessa Redgrave as Mary and Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth. Everyone with a modicum of English historical knowledge said the same thing; these two queens never met so why did they meet in the film?</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now they've been advertising this new effort on tv and not only are they meeting, they seem to be having a conversation about whether Elizabeth should order Mary's execution. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Geez! That was a conversation Elizabeth had with her advisers, during which she declared that she would never execute an anointed queen. She didn't have this conversation with Mary. Yes they were cousins, but THEY NEVER MET!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And in this film, Mary has a very thick Scottish accent. Did the producers of this rubbish even look anything up on Wikipedia? Mary was brought up in France and spoke French or English with a French accent. No way in the world did she ever have a Scottish accent.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every so-called 'historical' film or television programme should have a clear warning that it has little or nothing to do with history. Watch it at your peril!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>Now for something else:</u> Last week I was watching a programme on television about how the lesser nobility were hiring out their stately homes to tourists in order to maintain them. Some people pay £1000 a night, others £10,000 for the weekend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All well and nice and the baron showing his guests around seemed very approachable and friendly. That is until one guest asked him if he would be happy for one of his children to marry someone like them. I was ashamed to listen to his reply.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He declared that he couldn't agree to that because the gene pool had to be maintained and that the nobility were obviously much cleverer that the common folk. Apparently never heard of Stephen Hawking or Einstein, but by saying that, he proved himself less clever than the average person. Does he not know that he only has a title and a big estate because, centuries ago, one of his ancestors was given these things for pimping for the King or wiping his arse. How is that clever?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every time I think the English class system is fading, I come across someone like him. This was an old programme, obviously made before Prince Harry married. I think I might like to ask this baron the same question now.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: blue;"><b>Anne Boleyn has been maligned throughout history as a schemer, a gold digger, too ambitious for her own good, yet few people believe she was really guilty of the ridiculous charges laid against her.</b></span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZwsATji29w4ietVXUR8UMd4wtvkDfehqSVb_HU1oV7uS3WpMtEH2E9u77M3BQ8l6TDuVmI_Rq44-ibXrsz_bFV5DR44c6A3_QKLs-8ZdOKsUtHNMgwdOunRMBxVnfk1PH2OgqAzGw8q4/s1600/Shed+no+tears+stand+up.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1150" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZwsATji29w4ietVXUR8UMd4wtvkDfehqSVb_HU1oV7uS3WpMtEH2E9u77M3BQ8l6TDuVmI_Rq44-ibXrsz_bFV5DR44c6A3_QKLs-8ZdOKsUtHNMgwdOunRMBxVnfk1PH2OgqAzGw8q4/s320/Shed+no+tears+stand+up.png" width="230" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://a-fwd.com/asin-com=B077ZRBZPB" target="_blank">SHED NO TEARS</a></b><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">I watched The White Queen and the White Princess on television recently, where the theory is that Elizabeth Woodville, the princes' mother, substituted the younger prince, Richard, with a peasant who resembled him.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">There are so many things wrong with this theory, I don't know where to begin.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">The first thing that springs to mind is that a fifteenth century peasant boy would be unable to read and write, would have a very different accent to the prince, and would have no idea how to behave. He wouldn't have fooled anyone for long.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">The other thing wrong with the theory is that the princes' mother arranged the marriage, along with Margaret Beaufort, of her eldest daughter, Elizabeth, to Henry Tudor. She did this to secure her family's position on the throne and such a marriage would have given a much better claim to Henry Tudor. Is it likely she would have done that had she thought for one moment that one of her own sons still lived?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">When it comes to the mystery of the fate of the princes, all we can have are theories. My theory, in this book, is different but just as good as any other.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Certainly James Tyrell confessed to having murdered the boys, on the orders of Richard III, but confessions taken in medieval times were unreliable. Mark Smeaton confessed to sleeping with Anne Boleyn, when he was nowhere near the place stated at the time. If you have ever been to the Tower of London, especially when the dungeons were open (they were closed for safety reasons some years ago), you would possibly imagine that a suspect would confess to anything in order to stop the torture.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Anyway, it is a theory, and I hope you enjoy reading it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">The story revolves around a fictitious character, Lord Nicholas Rainham, who was a friend of King Edward IV. But when that King died suddenly, his friends started to disappear, being executed without trial on the orders of the King's brother, Richard. Nicholas knows he will be next and is forced into hiding. </span></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">This is the third in the series, The Pestilence, but can be read alone. It concerns some of the ordinary people who emerged at the end of the black death, to find the country almost deserted.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Rebecca is a prostitute, driven out of her home town by a terrified mob, looking for someone to blame for the pestilence. After hiding with her adult son, they continue on their journey, hoping to start a new life where nobody knows about Rebecca's history or profession. What they find is evidence that Rebecca's eldest son is alive and well and living as an earl.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Rebecca's longs to tell him the truth, but will that truth destroy the very essence of who he is?</span></div>

She was the only Queen of England who never set foot in the country and I found her a fascinating subject. However, as I got involved in the research for Queen Berengaria, in relation to Richard, I thought his first serious love interest, Princess Alys of France, deserved a mention.<br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /><br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" />Alys turned out to be a very interesting character, a sympathetic character, although very little is known about her. In fact, very little is known about either of these princesses, and I hope I have done them justice. I have studied many chronicles of the time, a lot of which contradict each other, but none of them really describe the thoughts and feelings of these two young women, especially Alys, who I feel was exploited and much maligned.<br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /><br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" />Anyway, this has been a new venture for me, to write about real people instead of fictional ones, to know where the story has to go because it is history, it has happened. I do hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.<br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /><br clear="none" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" />It is available from today in both kindle and paperback versions. <span style="color: purple;">The story concerns Lord Richard Morton, an earl and courtier to King Henry VIII. In service of that King, Lord Richard is obliged to leave his wife and daughter for a whole year, to fight the King's war with the French.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">On his return, he is heartbroken to find his beloved wife with child by his brother. In a blind rage, he lashes out at her and leaves, taking his five year old daughter with him.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">It is seven years before he discovers his mistake when his dying brother sends for him and make his deathbed confession.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Now he is even more heartbroken, to think that he tore their lives apart, turned against his wife when he should have known better and given her his support. How is he ever going to make it up to her and to his daughter, who has been kept away from her mother for all those years?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">He knows he must return to his Cornish home and reunite his daughter with her mother, he knows he can never ask forgiveness of either of them. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">But when he finds his wife studying the illicit and heretical teachings of Martin Luther, he fears he may have left things too late. He cannot leave his child with a mother who is likely to be arrested and charged with heresy, nor can he bear to separate them again.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">This will be the hardest battle he has ever had to fight.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="color: purple;">One of the founders of the reformation was Martin Luther, a German priest who began to question the dogma of the Roman Catholic Church. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">He particularly objected to the Church's sale of indulgences and the idea that entry into Heaven could be bought with money. In 1517, he posted his 95 thesis of objections on the door of a church, thus rousing others to begin to question in their turn. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">For centuries after Luther's rebellion, possession of his writings was illegal, heretical and could be punished by being burned alive.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Although still in his early twenties, Christopher Hartleigh
now finds himself Duke of Somersham and the head of the Hartleigh family. He
thinks it will be an easy task until his young cousin, Penelope, brings up the
subject of Pier Gaston, a French aristocrat left penniless by the revolution.
Penelope's father, the late Duke, has already refused consent for her to marry
Pier, believing his only interest to be in her fortune, but she has stubbornly
kept writing to him. Now Christopher is Duke, she hopes that he will be more
sympathetic to her cause and allow them to marry.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Christopher hopes she will meet someone more suitable at the
London season, and steers her towards Viscount Michael. Her determination takes
him by surprise and he feels inadequate to the task he has been given. He also
believes the Frenchman is only interested in his cousin's fortune and refuses
his consent to the marriage.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Naively, he hopes she will see sense and marry the Viscount;
instead she elopes with Pier, an act which will cause a terrible scandal if it
is known.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
His duty now is to follow them and bring her back, hopefully
before it is too late.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">This is Book Three of the Pestilence Trilogy, three books set amid the devastation of the Black Death, which spread throughout England in 1348. The disease is now known to be the Bubonic Plague and this was its first appearance in England.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Many scientists argue about whether it was actually the same disease that devastated London 300 years later in 1665, but it has always been accepted that it was the same. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">It came here, to England, on trade ships carrying black rats and their fleas, which spread the disease. This third book tells of how people's lives were changed by the devastation the plague left in its wake. It had the effect of changing the entire structure of society.</span></div>

<div>
<span style="color: purple;"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">The Minstrel's Lady tells of a minstrel and his lady, Rose, who sings with him. They go to London on the invitation of their friend, Mark Smeaton, who has told Queen Anne Boleyn all about them and she wants to hear them play and sing.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">But things don't go to plan when they arrive to witness the downfall of Mark and subsequently the Queen. They decide they would be safer at home, but first they remain to play and sing in the park on May Day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Because of the impending executions, the crowds pouring into London cause the coach on which they are travelling to divert to a weaker bridge over the river Thames. The storm causes the bridge to collapse and Rose awakes in a tavern with no memory of who she is, not even her name.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">When a nobleman appears and claims her as his bride, she has no way of knowing if she is who he thinks she is. She goes with him, falls in love with him, but is haunted by dreams of a young minstrel and a village just outside London.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Will she ever learn the truth? And if she does, will she lose the love of her life?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">The final selections will be made in July when I shall be calling for votes, so keep your fingers crossed for me, please.</span></div>

<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">This was the lovely review given to my Holy Poison series and I decided such praise deserved an update of their covers.</b><br />
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;"><br /></b>
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">There are six books in the series, set amid the violent and turbulent reign of Queen Mary I, known throughout history as Bloody Mary for her five year campaign to stamp out heresy and bring England back to the Church of Rome.</b><br />

<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">What was it like, to live through those days? What was it like to have lived for six years under the rule of the Protestant King Edward VI, who outlawed Catholicism and imprisoned and confiscated the property of those who defied that law. Before that, King Henry VIII had broken with Rome and set himself up as head of the Church in England, although he was still basically a Catholic, just not a Roman Catholic. Indeed, his sixth and last wife, Queen Catherine Parr, narrowly escaped arrest on his order for following the Protestant faith.</b><br />
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;"><br /></b>
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">There were many, like the heroine of the first novel, <a href="http://a-fwd.com/asin-com=B00G6SK3EI" target="_blank">THE JUDAS PLEDGE</a>, who remembered nothing of Catholic rule and knew only that they were worshippers of idols and that their penalties were harsh. Don't forget, their very soul depended on their belief in their religion. To be suddenly told that they had to recant from the Protestant religion and once again follow the doctrine of Catholic rule, as well as the rule of the Pope in Rome, caused many of those Protestants to suffer the agonising death of being burned alive rather than deny their faith. It caused others to flee the country, to escape to France, where the King was helping English Protestants whilst still persecuting his own.</b><br />
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;"><br /></b>
<b style="color: #111111; font-family: "Amazon Ember", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">In the first book we meet Lord Richard Summerville and his wife, Bethany. It had to be done; when autumn arrived, so did the mouses. Hundreds and hundred of mouses. I took the tea cosy off the teapot one morning and there was a little Mickey sitting on the lid waving at me! Well, I'm not scared of mice, but I don't want to share my limited space with them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I have started a new Regency series. It is clean and wholesome, no sex, just the hint of some. It is called <a href="http://a-fwd.com/asin-uk=B06XSLSYY2" target="_blank">A Match of Honour</a> and is available to buy at the reduced price of $2.99 for the first week. The paperback will be along soon, but it seems Amazon don't like the English spelling of 'honour' on the cover, although they don't have a problem with it on the kindle version!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Like all my books, it is available to read for free via the Kindle Unlimited program, for which you can still get a month's free trial. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, here is the tale:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Christopher Hartleigh is the 21 year old heir to his father’s brother, the Duke of Somersham. Because the present Duke has no sons, only three daughters, and their mother is determined that the estate stay with her own bloodline, the Duke tells Christopher that he should marry his cousin, Susan, the eldest of those daughters.</span><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Christopher initially finds the idea amusing. Susan has been like a sister to him all his life and he tells his uncle he has no intention of marrying her.</span><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">However, wanting to discuss the matter with Susan, and perhaps enjoy a joke with her about the suggestion, he seeks her out. When he sees her going into the woods, dressed in peasant’s garb, he follows her to the cottage of an old wise woman, the local herbalist and seer, and his curiosity is piqued.</span><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;" /><span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">He waits outside the cottage for Susan to emerge and there he discovers a secret to make his amusement turn quite sour.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: #fafafa; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">And here is a teaser from the first chapter</span><span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: #fafafa; color: mediumblue; font-family: arial, "helvetica neue", helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>CHAPTER ONE</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>The Only Suitable Match</b></div>
<br />
<h1>
<o:p></o:p></h1>
<h1>
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_The_Only_Suitable"></a><o:p></o:p></h1>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Christopher laughed out loud. He could not quite take
this conversation seriously, could not believe his father was even suggesting
it.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“It is no jest, Christopher,” George said. “I am but
passing on the suggestion your Uncle has made, as I promised him I would. If
the idea does not appeal to you, if you are firmly set against such a plan,
then that will be the end of it.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Will it?” Christopher turned to face his mother, who sat
quietly with her hands clasped loosely in her lap. She wore an enigmatic smile
and he would have given a year’s allowance to know what she was thinking.
“Mother? What is your opinion of this ridiculous suggestion?”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
He thought she would reject the idea out of hand, but she
surprised him by not answering straight away. When she did find her voice, it
was to utter words he would never have expected.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“I think it would be a good match,” she said quietly.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Her husband turned to look at her sharply and raised his
eyebrows.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Jane? That is not what you said when I first mentioned
it.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Jane stared at her husband, George, Lord Hartleigh,
brother of the Duke of Somersham and father of her sons, Christopher and Mason.
The elder of those sons was the heir and would inherited the title when the
Duke died, which everyone expected to be very soon. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Finally, Jane replied.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“No, but I have had time to consider.” She turned to her
son. “If you, as the future Duke, do not marry Susan, who will you marry? You
will be an important and wealthy man. Something should have been arranged years
ago.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Then why was it not?” Christopher demanded.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Because,” George replied, “it would have been
disrespectful to your Uncle. Not knowing if he would one day have a son meant
that we could not in all conscience find the right bride for you.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Well, Mother, you probably know that I would prefer to
find my own bride. The days of arranged marriages are long gone, I hope.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Yes, they are, but even so you must choose from among
maidens of your own class. We have neglected our duty by doing nothing to
introduce you to such girls. That being the case, your cousin would be the most
suitable match.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Christopher shook his head and got to his feet. He still
wore a little grin, still found the situation amusing. Marry Susan, indeed! He
had nothing against her, except the slight resemblance to her mother’s superior
attitude that he found hard to tolerate. She was a nice enough maid, and, as
the eldest daughter of the present Duke, certainly of the correct status to wed
the future Duke. But this was not something he had ever expected. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
She was his cousin, a childhood playmate of his own age. He
had thought about a marriage over the years, of course he had, but if he had
considered anything it was that he might go to London, perhaps to court and
meet some young lady there. Lord knew there were enough of them paraded before
suitable young men every season and Christopher was certainly suitable. He was
an excellent catch for all the mothers desperate to have their daughters well
married. Indeed, he was one of the most eligible bachelors in the country and
would be more so when his uncle passed away. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
It was rumoured that the Prince Regent kept a jovial
court and quite informal. Christopher would not be averse to spending time
there, to discovering for himself whether the rumours were true.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Give it some thought,” George said as his son moved
toward the door. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Christopher turned back with his hand resting on the
doorknob, still wearing that amused smile.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“I will, Father,” he said. “But do not hold out too much
hope. I trust you have made no promises to His Grace.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
“Of course not. I would like to see his mind at rest
though. That I cannot deny.”<o:p></o:p></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Christopher was still grinning when he saddled his horse
and went for a ride about the estate. It was something he liked to do when he
had things to think about and this was certainly something to think about.<o:p></o:p></div>

I just had to post this. As an historian I am constantly amazed at the misinformation being touted as 'history' both on television and in books. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First there was the Tudors, a television programme here in England with the usual wonderful acting and equally wonderful costumes. Of course the title was wrong because this series was not about the Tudors, it was specifically about King Henry VIII who was only one of five Tudor monarchs. Perhaps the inventors of this programme did not know that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, according to this tv programme, Henry's sister, Margaret was sent to marry the ageing King of Portugal. NOoooo! His sister, Mary was sent to marry the ageing King of France. Then she married Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, but had no children with him. Well, if she hadn't, there would have been no nine day wonder called Jane Grey. But never mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Henry's sister, Margaret, who was not even included in this programme, married the King of Scotland, James IV, making him Henry's brother-in-law NOT his cousin as he kept saying. Charles Brandon, when widowed married Catherine Willoughby and no they didn't separate and he didn't have a French mistress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then we have Victoria, the wonderful programme about Queen Victoria, where we have people being hanged, drawn and quartered, a barbaric sentence for those found guilty of treason. The last person to suffer this was about 100 years before Victoria; during her reign the drawing and quartering was carried out after death.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, let's come to some recent books I have read. The first was a tale of a King of Wales - Wales never had a king, it was and still is a principality. Not so bad, a fictional King of Wales, except the earl mentioned in the story had a throne, a realm and a kingdom. Noooooo! Only Kings, Queens and sometimes princes and princesses have those. Still, it was a good story.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next was a timeslip novel, where the modern girl not only turns up at the door of a 17th century castle in modern clothes and is given hospitality and a bed for the night, but then she overhears a plot against King James I because he was Catholic! Noooooooooooo! James was Protestant, anyone with a modicum of historical knowledge knows that. He padded himself out wherever he went because he was terrified of Catholic plots against him.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now I have started to read a book where a mulatto, i.e. person of mixed race, is a barrister at the Inns of Court in London. Nooooo! Never would a person of mixed race have been accepted, but worse than that, far worse, is the fact that the barrister is in Newgate Prison, thinking about the Old Bailey. Nooooo! The Old Bailey, central criminal court, was built on the site of Newgate Prison after it was demolished. The story is set in 1819 - the Old Bailey was opened in 1907.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Please, please, please, if you are going to write a screenplay or a novel involving English history, make sure you get your facts straight. It is not that difficult. You don't even need to open a book nowadays, you can simply google it. It is an affront to historians.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have read from people who are supposed to be historians, that people in the middle ages had nice white teeth because there wasn't any sugar, I kid you not. They also had baths every day. Yeah, right.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Please, get it right before you publish.</div>

<h2>
<span style="color: purple;"><u><b><a href="http://a-fwd.com/asin-uk=B01LWKSKFN" target="_blank">THE MINSTREL'S LADY</a></b></u></span></h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">I thought to write a novel around Anne Boleyn, who I have long regarded as one of the most unfortunate and betrayed women in English history.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">From what we know, she did not want to marry the King. She was in love with Harry Percy and wanted to wed him; all they need was the permission of the King. But once that King saw Anne, he was not going to let her have a normal, happy life with the man she loved. He wanted her for himself and what Henry VIII wanted, Henry VIII got.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">He was no doubt besotted. He turned the country upside down an divorced his faithful wife of 20 years, declared his daughter a bastard and defied the Pope, earning him an excommunication. All this for the love of his life, yet only a few short years later, he not only lost interest in her, he was happy to have her executed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">It is said that he spent the night before her execution pawing over plans and diagrams for the scaffold where she was to lose her life. By this time, it is rumoured, she was also in love with him.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">Of course, we none of us really know the truth and it is popular to believe that she was guilty of all charges, although we do know she could not have committed adultery with Mark Smeaton on the dates and at the times he stated, as she was elsewhere at those times. That didn't stop Cromwell from stating his word as fact. The poor man was terrified and was promised his life if he confessed.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">So, since I never use real historical figures as major characters in my books, I decided to write about friends of the unfortunate Mark Smeaton, a fellow minstrel and his lady, called to London by Mark to perform for the Queen. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: purple;">This is their story and you can read more and the first chapter on <a href="http://www.historical-romance.com/the-minstrel-s-lady.html" target="_blank">my website here.</a></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: blue;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
They have managed to persuade Aramis (Santiago Cabrera) that all that handsome manhood has no place in a monastery and brought him back to his rightful position.<br />
<br />
But now we have a married Musketeer - D'Artagnan (<span class="itemprop" itemprop="name" style="background-color: #fbfbfb; color: #70579d; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-decoration: none;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3297698/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t2" itemprop="url" style="background-color: #fbfbfb; color: #70579d; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-decoration: none;">Luke Pasqualino</a>) </span>- and really not sure whether Alexander Dumas had that bit in his stories. I really must get round to reading the book, but at 750 pages I haven't managed it. Should have done it when I was younger.<br />
<br />
I am longing to know if Milady (Maimie McCoy) is coming into this series. She was just being cured of her wickedness in the last series and nearly won Athos back. If we have one married Musketeer, why not two?<br />
<br />
Can't wait!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14978122480310939801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9087827922530284834.post-2912033353540899472016-06-01T22:42:00.000-07:002016-06-01T22:42:51.566-07:00PESTILENCE: Now available in boxed set!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b><u><br /></u></b>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the third book in my trilogy concerning some of the people who lived through the devastation of the Black Death.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In 1348, England saw millions of its citizens of all classes, noblemen and peasants alike, dying a horrible and painful death. At the time, people had no concept of germs or bacteria and they believed it was a sign that God was displeased. They thought it was the end of the world, a sign of the Last Days.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It changed the whole social structure of the country with the nobility unable to maintain their status and wealth with no one left to work the land, with the peasants suddenly left without guidance and realising they were no longer tied to the land. The up and coming merchants and tradesmen found themselves suddenly with less competition and able to charge whatever they liked for their services.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was the total change of everything people had been taught to know.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My characters in this last book are able to leave their familiar towns and areas and some have no choice. Rebecca and her illegitimate son are driven out of their town, blamed for the disease because of her occupation as a prostitute. What they find as they flee the town in which they had spent their lives is a whole new world and a whole new life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But they also find Rebecca's past waiting to greet them and she is called upon to make the greatest sacrifice of her life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first chapter is listed on the right of this blog, along with the first chapters of all my books. </div>
